We can develop engines to order. If you have particular needs not addressed yet by our existing and future engines, please contact us to discuss how we can supply you engines matching your aircraft’s requirements.
Direct Propulsion & Hybrid Systems
Wankel Aviation engines can be used for both, direct propulsion as well as hybrid systems.
Both approaches have advantages and disadvantages:
- Direct propulsion allows for great simplicity of the overall system: Just the engine, possibly a reduction gear box, and the propeller. However, the engine needs to be big enough to produce the required maximum power, has to run at variable speeds, increasing wear of the engine a well as fuel consumption, and the engine requires a starter and an alternator.
- Hybrid propulsion, where the combustion engine is used to power a generator generating electricity which in turn powers electric motors propelling the aircraft. Such system allows for a smaller engine always running at its best point and to be started with the generator. On the downside, the total system also requires a generator, a battery, and electric propulsion motors, thus increasing overall weight and multiplying the efficiency losses of each individual component.
Please contact us to discuss which approach is most suitable for your aircraft. We can also supply semi-integrated hybrid systems consisting of engine, generator and inverter matching your onboard electricity needs.
H2 Fuel Systems
Hydrogen-powered aircrafts allow for sustainable, climate-neutral aviation. Our hydrogen-fueled engines let you achieve this goal, offering
☑ low cost
☑ high reliability
☑ high overall system efficiency
☑ low overall system weight
☑ use in high altitudes
☑ ability to run on contaminated fuels
Use of hydrogen in aviation, however, raises challenging questions regarding total system safety on board the aircraft.
Certification requirements have to be considered from the very beginning of the aircraft development process in order to ensure that the aircraft qualifies for receiving EASA or FAA approvals.
We would be very pleased to support you on making your aircraft safe to fly with hydrogen. Please contact us to find out more.
FADEC
Wankel Aviation Engines will be controlled by double channel Full Authority Digital Engine Control Systems. The Control Laws implemented in the software ensure a very efficient control of the engine. The double channel architecture represents a failsafe design concept and is therefore compliant with applicable Certification Specifications CS-E. The System, the Software and the Airborne Electronic Hardware are developed according to ARP4754A; ARP4761; DO-178C and DO-254 Design Assurance Level C.
